Review.

After Mr. Dursley drifted into an uneasy sleep, Dumbledore popped out of the ground and identified Professor McGonagall instantly. Through their conversation, we are informed that Harry’s parents, Lily and James, were murdered by Voldemort while Harry Potter, though a fragile baby at that time, survived. How Harry managed to defeat the Voldemort remains a mystery for all.

However, without parents, how should this little boy manage to live? Let’s unfold today’s story.

‘I’ve come to bring Harry to his aunt and uncle. They’re the only family he has left now.’

‘You don’t mean – you can’t mean the people who live here?’ cried Professor McGonagall, jumping to her feet and pointing at number four. ‘Dumbledore – you can’t. I’ve been watching them all day. You couldn’t find two people who are less like us. And they’ve got this son – I saw him kicking his mother all the way up the street, screaming for sweets. Harry Potter come and live here!’

Dumbledore,You don’t mean – you can’t mean the people who live here?’

Dudley,I saw him kicking his mother all the way up the street, screaming for sweets.

Dudley serves as the mirror reflecting the failure of Mr. And Mrs. Dudley as parents. How could Harry Pottercome and live here!

These people will never understand him! He’ll be famous – a legend – I wouldn’t be surprised if today was known as Harry Potter Day in future – there will be books written about Harry – every child in our world will know his name!’

‘Exactly,’ said Dumbledore, looking very seriously over the top of his half-moon glasses. ‘It would be enough to turn any boy’s head. Famous before he can walk and talk! Famous for something he won’t even remember! Can’t you see how much better off he’ll be, growing up away from all that until he’s ready to take it?’

Muggles like Mr. And Mrs. Dursley understand Harry.毕竟,哈利是天选之子the chosen one,a legend传奇人物。就像麦格教授所说,有一天会有Harry Potter Day,会有 books written about Harry,他会有名到every child in our world will know his name!’

It would be enough to turn any boy’s head. Actually, it’s not only the case with Harry. In real life, we did witness how the swift success turned one’s head.

Mike Tyson. He championed the WBC at the age of 20, winning himself the reputation as the youngest champion in the boxing world.

这样的成就如Dumbledore所言,it’s enough to turn his head.

See, when one is too young to embrace the swift rise, his life may lose control. Can’t you see how much better off he’ll be, growing up away from all that until he’s ready to take it?’

Professor McGonagall opened her mouth, changed her mind, swallowed(吞咽) and then said, ‘Yes – yes, you’re right, of course.

哈利波特会如何出现,也是像Dumbledore一样pop out of the ground吗?

A low rumbling sound had broken the silence around them. It grew steadily louder as they looked up and down the street for some sign of a headlight; it swelled to a roar as they both looked up at the sky – and a huge motorbike fell out of the air and landed on the road in front of them.

Swell“膨胀”,所以swell to...

伴随着这惊天咆哮,两人定睛一看,a huge motorbike fell out of the air一辆巨型摩托从天而降,fall降落;然后顺利着陆,landed on the road;land除了做名词“土地”,还可以“动起来”,变成动词“登陆”= to arrive somewhere in a plane, boat,后面接on,land on+地点就是登录某地,比如:In 1969, the first men landed on the moon.

If the motorbike was huge, it was nothing to the man sitting astride it. He was almost twice as tall as a normal man and at least five times as wide. He looked simply too big to be allowed, and so wild – long tangles of bushy black hair and beard hid most of his face, he had hands the size of dustbin lids and his feet in their leather boots were like baby dolphins. In his vast, muscular arms he was holding a bundle of blankets.

看看罗琳描述的,虽然摩托车已经堪称Huge了, it was nothing to the man sitting astride it. 海格这体格,twice as tall as a normal man有正常人两个高,你想想,最少也有3米了! five times as wide,有正常人5倍宽,那可真是一个giant!

Then, suddenly, Hagrid let out a howl like a wounded dog. For a full minute the three of them stood and looked at the little bundle; Hagrid’s shoulders shook, Professor McGonagall blinked furiously and the twinkling light that usually shone from Dumbledore’s eyes seemed to have gone out.

Let out(发出)a howl(嚎哭)。 比起说they are crying, or they are upset.

Thetwinkling light seemed to have gone out.
